Commitment

Commitment

The current model of consumption has been extremely harmful to our environment. If we want this to change, both the leading brands in the fashion industry and small businesses have an important role and a great responsibility.

Sustainability is not only about reducing your environmental impact but also about the social policies under which you work with your suppliers and your team. We believe that in all industries, the well-being of people and the planet should be valued above profit.

At NUNA, we are committed to taking the necessary steps that will bring us closer to being a more sustainable brand.

Today, we use our textile design to raise awareness about vulnerable species; we work under a fair employability policy with our producers and artisans; We are seeking to use only ecological materials and to cooperate with their development, and we seek to give back to the environment through donations and alliances with NGOs dedicated to conservation.

Materials

The first 3 years of NUNA we have worked with TEC fabric. SUBLIME NG from the Brazilian supplier Santa Constancia. Santa Constancia is a textile company that is currently committed to the development of new technologies for the production of ecological fabrics.

As of 2019 we started working with its biodegradable and environmentally friendly fabrics: 5358 Light-(CO2), 5370 Fluity-(CO2)

This technology is the world’s first biodegradable polyamide. The decomposition of these fabrics, which could take decades in conventional polyamide, now occurs 50% in the first year and in 3 years it completely decomposes, which has been ruled out in a toilet (anaerobic environment, technology used in the Brazilian community services).

In addition, in our next collections we will be implementing the DuPont® Apexa® compostable polyester fiber, which, under the right conditions, allows its conversion to compost.

We are aware of the CO2 emitted by transport as we do not have alternatives for these fabrics locally, so to mitigate our footprint, all our imports are carried out by sea.

3% for the Planet

Peru is home to 70% of the world’s biodiversity and the jungle represents 76% of our entire territory. The Peruvian Amazon is one of the areas with the greatest biodiversity and endemism globally; others to contribute 5.2% of the national product to the country’s economy.

Every year, more than 150,000 hectares of forest are deforested in our Jungle.

As a brand in one of the most polluting industries globally, NUNA is committed to giving back to the planet.

Since mid-2019 we have been working in partnership with the NGO “Conservamos por Naturaleza” contributing with donations of 3% of the value of each sale for its “Reforestamos” program.

Until today we have made a contribution of s/. 4197.

Upcycling

Upcycling is also known as the creative reuse of objects or garments. It consists of creatively transforming waste and products or garments in poor condition or old, into new and regenerated items to extend their life, avoiding unnecessary consumption and increasing waste.

We believe that every company in the fashion industry should commit to implementing this practice within their policies to help reduce the impact that we as an industry have on the environment.

At NUNA we send our waste to the “Divino Niño Jesus de Máncora” School of the Association for Special Children, which is reused for creative activities such as making stuffed animals for children or accessories.

To extend the life of your bikini or your swimwear and thus reduce consumption, we offer the service of changing accoutrements and elastics or repairing any deterioration of your NUNA free of charge with no warranty period.

We are also in the development of our next project “PIMP YOUR CLOTHES” which aims to help reduce textile waste and generate more employment for local artisans. This campaign consists of offering the service of handmade embroidery, applications, patches or any other creative technique that we will develop together with our artisans in order to regenerate any garment that wants to be rescued (regardless if it is from NUNA or any other brand) generating This creates more work for them and for other artisans in vulnerable areas of Lima.

Social responsability

In a society with wide gaps, NUNA is committed to giving work to local artisans and producers, mostly women, under a fair employability policy.

We believe that part of being a responsible brand lies in respect, working conditions, and the hiring policies under which you employ your workers.

We feel responsible for creating a positive impact in the lives of these people by focusing on enhancing the value of their work by developing fair pricing strategies for their embroidery and creating close ties where there is always horizontal communication.

Currently, we work with a group of artisans in Villa Maria del Triunfo to whom we pay 15% of the final value of our garment for their embroidery service. In addition, we work with two workshops of local producers located in Chorrillos and San Juan de Miraflores, to whom we pay 13% of the final value of our pieces for the cutting and sewing service.
